Pair of faux bamboo chairs, black lacquered with "patent leather" upholstery
When you decide to change the dining table and chairs in your home, it can be worth spending a little time thinking about what kind of look you want to achieve. Do you have a really contemporary home or are you more of a traditionalist? The type of dining set that you choose can help complete the existing décor in a room, or you might want to choose something totally new and then decorate to match.
You also need to measure up properly as you’ll want to choose a table that is big enough to seat all the family, and leave some space for those times you have guests over for a meal, but you don’t want to make the room seem small by buying a dining set that is too large for it.
Leave at least 60cm space behind the dining chairs so that your diners have plenty of room to pull their chair back to get to their place at the table. On the table surface, each place should have a width of at least 60cm to avoid diners banging elbows with their neighbors. If you choose a round table, this will accommodate fewer people than a rectangular one of a similar size, and fewer dining chairs will fit underneath a circular table. If you’re short on space, an extending dining table can be a really good idea.
The material your table is made out of will affect the style a little, although you can get contemporary and traditional styled furniture in virtually all woods. Many companies also produce antiqued or distressed finishes on dining sets if that’s what you’re looking for.
