Regency Modern 5 POSH Hollywood Regency Ideas

The Hollywood Regency style has become popular with those people who want the luxurious feel for their homes, but also love to entertain color, and anything new and fresh.

You can have this look in your own home, and it doesn't have to cost a fortune. Here are a few quick tips to get this look for less.

1. Invest In A Few Great Pieces

Familiarize yourself with this style and pick out the furnishings that appear in the magazines that speak to you. Consider investing in a few key pieces that will take the spot light in your home. Unique accent chairs, over-sized paintings, sofas, beds, and chests are all great pieces to invest in. Invest in the bigger pieces rather than the accessories. Little pieces can be picked up for less, and exchanged out as your room evolves.

Find vintage pieces that have personality to them. Search online for pieces that you don't see every day and position them as the main attraction of the room. Homes designed around the modern looks are not cluttered, but rather showcase a few key accessories that shine. Consider placing your collections in metal etageres. Books is another great decorative item that can be displayed in a home. They can be stacked in a decorative way on coffee tables, or on side chairs. Consider using a regency bar cart to house a variety of wine decanters, and attractive clear glass alcoholic bottles. Brands such as Absolut Vodka, Smirnoff and Brandons Gin are great brands to display. An attractive bar cart not only looks fantastic in a home decorated around the modern styles, but also is practical for entertaining.

Where to shop?

Look for vintage pieces have that one of a kind charm on ebay, 1st dibs, etsy and One Kings Lane. These online websites can be the perfect place to shop for really unusual pieces that can bring a bit of a edge to your room.

2. Add Metal Sculptures and Furniture

Keep an eye out for unique art made from metal. Items such as sculptures, chairs, chandeliers and chests works perfectly with the mod style. Go for the sensational pieces that can appear dramatic, and staggering. Get something that nobody else has and show it off in a big way. The modern style is one that is interesting, so go for the unexpected. Show a edgy side to your personality that people often don't see at work.

3. Incorporate Pattern Into Your Rooms

Geometrical patterns seem to be in style over the years, making it a perfect choice for art, rugs, and throw pillows. Introduce pattern through your area rugs. Go for something with a strong pattern, and work with furniture painted in white to off set a really bold pattern.

Canvas Art

Canvas art for the wall can bring additional bright colors into the room. You can also create your own art by google imaging "Geometrical patterns" and finding a pattern that is easy enough to copy on to an over-sized frame. Replicate the pattern by using an overhead projector, and sample size paint bought from your local Home Depot.

For additional pattern inspiration see these posts:

4. Introduce Wood Into Your Design

Contradictions and contrasts can give your home personality. Pair together modern metal pieces with raw wood. The flamboyant nature of the glamorous style needs a foot in reality, so pair together natural wood chairs, with earthy leather can bring a balance to a room in an unexpected way.

5. The Unexpected Is Always Welcome

Color can play a huge role in determining how the room is perceived to a guest. Even amongst clean lines and minimal furnishings, color can be the way of adding comfort. One way of adding color can be in your furnishings. Add bold color in the walls and tie it in by painting the same color for any cabinetry. Go for high gloss sheens for kitchen cabinetry, and exchange out the hardware for something with a modern edge. It is amazing what new hardware can do for cabinets, and furniture.

4 Tips For Choosing A Color For Your Bamboo Furniture

Anthropologies Odette handwoven chair 998. 4 Tips For Choosing A Color For Your Bamboo Furniture

Anthropologie's Odette handwoven chair, $998.

A coat of paint can resurrect old furniture, breathe life back into a dull room, and bring an entire motif back to life. It's one of the least expensive and easy DIY projects that will ever pack such a punch.

Follow these steps to make sure the color you pick will leave you without any buyer's remorse to dampen the excitement you feel every time you walk into your brand new, old room.

Paint a Sample

It seems obvious, but sample swatches can lie. Samples are a good jumping-off point -- a place to start. Florescent tube lights humming above you on the ceiling at a hardware store (hopefully) don't replicate the lighting in the room you're going to paint.

Paint can dry lighter or darker, and with no frame of reference, the "perfect" color in the store might not be so perfect when you get it home and see it next to your other things. You got your brushes and tape and you're excited to do it now. Don't. Be patient. Pick a few maybes, get a few samples, take them home, and paint them on small areas of the furniture that are out of the way. The moment they dry, you'll know.

Let it Shine

There are several different kinds of interior paint, and their names all concern how the dry paint's finish reacts to light. Flat and matte finishes have essentially no sheen. Instead of reflecting light, they absorb it. These finishes are perfect for concealing minor imperfections. Eggshell gives off some sheen. Next up are satin, semi-gloss, and high gloss, which give off the most sheen, appear shiniest, and reflect the most light.

Know Your Paint

Oil-based paint is recommended for most indoor wood furniture because it tends to last longer and soaks into the grain of the wood more quickly. Melamine, an oil-based paint that is generally used to paint wood cabinets, can also work well for indoor wood furniture.

For outdoor wood furniture, stick with latex paint because it won't dull as quickly. If you're painting metal furniture, oil or latex paints will work, unless it's galvanized or wrought iron -- then avoid oil. For plastic furniture, consider acrylic spray paint.

Take the Extra Step and Prep

Your furniture might not be dirty, but you need to clean it before you paint and trap any foreign particles, lint, dirt, or grease that you won't even notice until the paint dries. Your paint job will look better and last longer if you clean your furniture with a mild detergent and water, let it dry, and apply any primer that is necessary for your paint to stick. Make sure you choose a paint that is labeled as "washable."

Painting your furniture can change an entire room with just a few hours' work. Take your time, prep, make sure the room is ventilated and -- once you've picked the right paint -- get ready for your interior makeover. Your only regret will be that you didn't do it sooner.

If you are able to do something striking, bamboo is the one style that can take bold color! Finding the just-right-color can often take months to decide as you figure out your style. The right colors can make all the difference in your homes interior. Decorating With Antique Bamboo Furniture

Architect Gil Schafer 500x608 Decorating With Antique Bamboo FurnitureArchitect Gil Schafer

We are so used to seeing the vintage bamboo Hollywood Regency furniture, that we forget about the beautiful antique Victorian bamboo furniture. In fact, antique bamboo furniture is of better quality than the furniture of the 50's and 60's. Dressers were made of solid wood, not melamine, and the inside of the drawers were also hand made of solid wood. Today the inside of furniture is often made of lower quality wood or thick cardboard, so why not go with antique furniture?

I ran across this stunning red dresser decorated in bamboo and painted a terrific red as you see below. The bamboo stocks were often famously painted gold, or highlighted, but as you can see how wonderful a simple shade of paint does for the architectural elements of the bamboo. Often times antique bamboo is seen photographed in magazines in their natural state, and left unpainted.  The raw bamboo can look quite attractive in English interiors, and all American interiors.  Consider pairing your bamboo furniture with patterns, and rustic interiors.  Bamboo furniture can be so versatile, making it a popular choice for interiors today.
